Located in Usadan-ro (Hannam-dong), Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Seoul Central Masjid is built by the special donation of 5,000m2 of land from Korean government and fund from Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia. The construction began in October 1974 and the Masjid opened on May 21st, 1976. It is the first Masjid in Korea.
Seoul Central Masjid is placed in the center of Han River and Namsan Mountain. Its expansion construction was completed recently. The prayer rooms are located in the first and second floors of the Masjid. In the newly built Annex Building, Wudu rooms are on B1, lecture room is on the first floor, and the office is on the second floor.
Islamic Community Center is composed of three floors. The first floor is leased out to shops. Prince Sultan Islamic School is placed on the second and third floors for Muslim children. Library, Muslim Committee and Muslim Women’s Committee rooms are placed on the third floor.
Seoul Central Masjid welcomes everyone. However, there are regulations for outfits as it is a holy place of worship. Exposing clothes are not allowed in the Masjid, thus, long bottoms and Hijab are available in the dressing room next to the entrance.
There are many Halal restaurants, Halal butcher shops, Islamic book shop, Halal supermarkets and travel agencies available around Seoul Central Masjid for both Muslim and Non-Muslims.
