At the time when the mosque was built, the architectural style and blueprint of the Great Mosque in Taipei were decided by consulting the blueprints of the famous Taiwanese architect Yang Zhuocheng and referring to relevant information from other academic institutions. With such an era background, symbolic significance, and unique non-replicating characteristics of architectural landmarks, the Great Mosque of Taipei has unique historical, architectural aesthetics and commemorative value.
The Taipei Great Mosque was completed in January 1949; and the inauguration ceremony was held on April 13, 1949. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Chen Cheng; political and religious leaders from Brunei, the Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia and other countries and regions were invited to attend. The temple became the most magnificent Islamic mosque in the Far East at that time.
In the decades after the completion of the new temple, there has been an endless stream of Islamic VIPs, groups and individuals invited, including the late Iranian King Bahlavi, Turkish Prime Minister Mendes, Jordanian King Hussein, and Saudi Arabian King Feather. The establishment of the Taipei Mosque not only continued the Lishui Street Mosque’s important mission of developing Islam in Taiwan, but also because of its special international exchange missions, the world’s Muslim kings, presidents and leaders from all walks of life will visit the mosque as an important itinerary.
